About Us
Penny Norford and Deb Lugar presently reside in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia where they enjoy collaborating on the same acrylic paintings. Prior to their collaborations, Deb was primarily a watercolorist while Penny’s medium was oil painting. Meeting in early 2022 at a bicycling event in Florida, they discovered a shared love of the outdoors that inspires their landscapes and nature paintings.
Both retired from their careers (Penny as a psychotherapist and Deb as a solid waste manager, as well as a swim and golf team mom), and in 2023 they embarked on their joint painting venture, Mixing Atoms Studio. Since that time, they discovered how much they enjoy learning about the significance a specific painting has to its new owner, as well as capturing the personalities of the pets they paint through custom orders.
When not painting or vending they can be found out in nature bicycling, hiking or kayaking—always in search of the next inspiring vista to paint.
